A tender mass filled with dead cells, bacteria and debris. The surrounding area is generally pink to deep red in color and warm and painful to touch.

A skin condition where pores become clogged with oil, dirt, debris and result in blackheads, whiteheads and red papules or zits. Acne bumps which become painful and hard are called acne cysts

Any substance that causes an allergic reaction. Allergens can include pollen, dust mites, animal dander, mold as well as ingredients in products.

A type 4 hypersensitivity reaction where a person has developed sensitivity to an allergen. Upon re-exposure to the allergen, a person develops a skin reaction which can include rash, redness, swelling, hives and itching. Allergens can include metals such as nickel or product ingredients such as fragrance or formaldehyde.

A term synonymous with eczema refers to inflammation in the skin which leads to itching and lesions on the skin. The cause is unknown but is associated with a family history or eczema, asthma or allergies
