patch testing

Patch testing refers to a tool used by doctors, usually dermatologists to screen patients for sensitivity to specific allergens. Allergens are placed on chambers, and adhered to patient's skin for usually 48 hours. Depending on the doctor's protocol, patients can return 48 hours or 72 hours for a first evaluation. Patients are taught to avoid any positive allergens.
