Are you due for a skin care overhaul?? Part 2

Welcome back skin ravers! :)

So we're on the subject of performing a skin care overhaul.

So are you ready to see what my answers are?

Okay so here goes.

I am a 39 year old female with combination skin.

I am concerned with battling any premature wrinkles and preventing new sunspots. My skin is more freckled now and ISN'T glowing. I would really like a healthier glowing appearance please!

I do experience some minor break outs about once a week.

I live a pretty simple lifestyle using products with less chemicals and am not interested in any time consuming regimen (like no more than 30 minutes total from the time I wash my face to sunblock to make-up).

I prefer not to spend more than $15-$20 on an individual product.

Old Regimen + products

NARS balancing foam cleanser (PM)

Exfoliate with a washcloth about once a month

Shiseido future solution lx softener (as my primer) (AM)

Shiseido liquid foundation (with SPF20) (AM)

Nars Blush stick (AM)

Night creams included Shiseido energizing cream and Obey Your Body Face cream(PM)

Shiseido shimmer eyeshadow

SO what did my re-assessment help me realize and change??

To help address my anti-aging and preventing new sun spots, I needed more sun protection (greater than SPF 20) and decided to add a sunblock that wasn’t incorporated into a product with a higher SPF (I felt as if I wasn’t getting enough protection with the SPF 20 in the foundation).

To address my lackluster and breakouts, I changed my exfoliation process from a washcloth to an actual scrub product and increased the frequency in which I scrub to 4 times a week.

I also changed up my cleanser to a light, citrus-y one that uses vegetarian ingredients. I like the way my skin feels after washing with it.

I got rid of the night cream (it was waaayyy too heavy and clogging my pores), changed to a foundation containing organic ingredients and botanical extracts.

I threw away the Obey Your Body Face cream because it gave me a face rash! (more on that in another post).

Instead of the balancing softener, I added a serum with antioxidants and peptides to help battle the whole aging process.

New Regimen + products (after overhaul)

Alba Botanica Pineapple Enzyme Facial Cleanser (AM, PM)

Alba Botanica Rainforest Gentle Acai Scrub (PM)

Mychelle Dermaceuticals No Tox AntiWrinkle Serum (PM)

Loving Naturals Adorable Baby Sunscreen (also works as a primer) (AM)

Lavera Trend Sensitive Organic Natural Liquid Foundation (AM)

Physician’s Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Blush (AM) sometimes I do go back to my NARS blush stick here and there!

Alba Botanica mineral Terra Tints Lip balm (AM) + Loving Naturals SPF lip balm

I have been on this regimen for about 6 and half months now and the most dramatic changes I have seen are more healthy and radiant skin. I can actually say I have a healthy glow now yeah!

I am partially keeping to my budget of less than $20 per product (ok maybe not the sunscreen, foundation and No tox serum but I have to look at the product, certain products are just a bit more expensive) as well as cutting out more chemicals.

I have no new age spots to report and still experience a break out here and there. But overall, my skin just feels and looks healthier. It feels softer and people tell me they think I am in my early 30s or late 20s. I’ll take that!

So how about you? when did you last overhaul your regimen and skin care products?

Do you feel it’s time to change things up a bit?

Are your products addressing your skin care needs?
